10TH JUNIOR
RUGBY CARNIVAL 2007 – 04TH MARCH 2007
It is planned to
have the 10th Carnival on an even larger scale on 04th
March 2007 at the College Grounds. All persons who wish to help
in this mega event are kindly requested to contact the
President/Secretary, OTRFU immediately – 0777-484022.
NEW COACHES FOR 1ST XV.
RUGBY TEAM

The
Advisory Committee has secured the services of Mr Theo Serafin who
is a very experienced qualified coach from New Zealand. He will
monitor all coaches at all levels and co-ordinate their training
progrmames.
The
Committee has also obtained the services of Mr Ronnie Ibrahim the
former Head Coach of Kingswood College, Kandy who produced
unbeaten teams for the past 3 years at Kingswood. Mr Ibrahim will
handle the 1st XV and Under 17 Rugby teams. In
addition Mr Stefan D Silva the former Captain of the unbeaten 1976
Rugby team will also fly down from Australia to be with the team
prior to and during the season and will assist in preparing the
teams.
The OTRFU
wishes to thank the former Head Coach, Mr Asanga Seneviratne
presently the Chairman of the National Selectors, the Vice
President of the SLRFU and the President of the Western Province
Rugby Football Union for the services rendered to College as Rugby
Coach during 2005 and 2006. The OTRFU further thanks Mr
Seneviratne for the large sums of money he has donated out of his
personal funds for the improvement of rugby at S. Thomas College
in the years 2005 and 2006 and for coaching for two years at no
expense to the College.
THE WARDEN'S – ADVISORY COMMITTEE - 2007
The
OTRFU commends the Warden for having appointed an independent
Rugby Advisory Committee for 2007 which will comprise of himself
and the following persons:

Mr R Renganathan
Mr Stefan D Silva
Mr Michael Jayasekera
Mr Savantha de Saram
Dr Manjula Karunaratne
Mr A R H Fernando
The above
committee which has been appointed by the Warden will report
directly to the Warden.
Their
responsibilities will include inter-alia the following
a) The selection and
monitoring and evaluating the performances of all rugby coaches.
b) Taking steps to
monitor, evaluate and improve team performances at all levels.
c) Making
recommendations to Warden on any matters necessary for the
furtherance and improvement of rugby at S. Thomas
College.
d) Raising funds for the rugby budget.
The OTRFU appeals to all old boys
and members to support the new Advisory Committee and the Warden
in their efforts to improve rugby at College.
OLD BOYS
TRIANGULAR RUGBY TOURNAMENT – S THOMAS, ROYAL AND TRINITY - 2006
The Class of ’94
came forward and organized this event in October. This event was
an enormous success with hundreds of Old Boys participating the
age groups 20-30, 30-40 and 40 and above. The OTRFU wishes to
thank the Class of ’94 for their effort in organizing this event.
THE OLD BOYS
RUGGER MATCH FOR THE JASON MARTENSTYN TROPHY
It is intended to
have the Old Boys vs. Present Boys Rugby Fixture this year after
making the necessary arrangements with College. A date will be
announced later.
DINNER AND SOCIAL 2007
It is planned
to have a Dinner at the Galle Face Hotel after the season. The
2006 social was a great success. The OTRFU Rugby Fund was
inaugurated and the initial donation was from Mr Talo Alileema.

PRESENT RUGBY STRUCTURE IN COLLEGE (2007)
The List of Coaches appointed in
respect of all the different age groups will be published in this
site under fixture card and officials shortly.

GYM MEMBERSHIPS
The OTRFU wishes to
thank Mr Talo Alileema for having made a donation to the OTRFU of
100 Power World Gym Memberships. These memberships are advertised
and are being sold through this Website for only Rs 2,500.00 and
the proceeds are for the OTRFU. Please check the notice on the
