TEAM
Johann Pieris - Captain and third year player.
Is a hard-hitting batsman who has made several good scores. He is
also an useful left arm spinner who has been among the wickets. A
safe field in any position (His .father, David, too represented the
College)
Ajit Amarasekera - A steady, patient batsman
who has made useful contributions to the side, when runs were
required. He is Vice-Captain and has made twenty appearances for the
school. A safe close-in fieldsman.
Umesh Idippily - Has been one of the most
successful bowlers this season. He is also a dependable batsman. He
was selected to the pool of schoolboy cricketers to represent Sri
Lanka against the Pakistan schoolboys.
Mahinda Halandoga - Is a good all-rounder and
an alert fieldsman. Bowls left-arm spin. Has been among the wickets
and runs this season.
Suranimala Wijesinghe - He is a useful
dependable right hand batsman who is capable of making runs. Bowls
off spin. His father Geoffrey holds the record with his partner for
the best 5th wicket partnership for S. Thomas' in the Royal-Thomian
series.
Guy de Alwis - Is a dependable batsman who is
capable of big scores. He is a splendid wicket-keeper. Was selected
to lead the Sri Lanka Schools' team against the Pakistan Schoolboys.
His father "R. L." too was wicket-keeper for S. Thomas'.
Rohan Anthonisz - A very keen and smart
fielder. Has proved to be a reliable opening batsman capable of
quick runs. Can be useful as a bowler if required.
Lakmal de Soysa - A good left hand batsman who
has scored many runs this season. He is a safe field.
Suren Appadurai - Opens the attack. He is a
much improved dependable* bowler-and a hard-hitting right hand
batsman.
Anuk de Zoyza - A promising right hand batsman
who has made 13 appearances for the School. Bowls off spin.
Ken de Alwis - Is a good wicket-keeper and a
reliable batsman. Brother of Guy de Alwis, he is also a good
fieldsman.
Ruwan Sirisena - Is a good close-in fieldsman
and a promising opening bat. He is cautious and dependable.
Suresh Muttuthantri - Played in some of the
third term games. He is very young. Did very well in the under 15
Inter-Schools' Tournament. A promising batsman and a safe close-in
fieldsman.
Athula de Silva - Bowls medium pace and should
do well as a batsman.
Ranil Pieris - Was a very successful bowler in
the Junior Team. He is a .keen fielder and bowls right arm leg spin.
(He is the son of lan Pieris, the former Thomian skipper and Sri
Lanka cap.)
